The legendary coach Louis van Gaal could return to the Dutch footballers, according to speculation by the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper. After the end of Frank de Boer, whose charges were knocked out by the Czech national team in the eighth round of the Euros, the Dutch federation wants to hire an experienced coach and Van Gaal is a priority for them. However, the 2014 World Cup bronze medallist has not coached anywhere for five years.
Van Gaal, 69, led the Oranjes from 2000 to 2002, when they failed to qualify for the World Cup, and from 2012 to 2014. This period was considerably more successful crowned with world bronze in Brazil. However, his coaching career ended in 2016 at Manchester United and until two years ago he claimed he would not return to the job and was retired. He won twenty major trophies during his career, picking up success with United, Barcelona, Bayern and Ajax.
The union announced after De Boer’s demise following the 0-2 loss to the Czechs that it would make a decision after a thorough analysis. According to the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper, this has already been completed. The new coach’s task will be to lead the Dutch to the World Cup in Qatar next year, with qualification resuming on 1 September.
